Watch Yourself Play Like Crap ... For Free!
Qooty is a text-based Aussie Rules simulator written in QBasic. It's really pretty shoddy and has bugs galore, but it works.

After writing the game for my own enjoyment, and then finding some folks were interested in using it themselves, I thought I'd stick it on the net.

A maximum of only 3 files are required to get QOOTY up and running.

I hope you get a kick out of it!

QOOTY is free, but if you want to send me money, shitloads will be sufficient!

QOOTY Is Grouse Because ...
QOOTY is a spectator sport. Its an aussie rules game simulator, that is a lot of fun to watch play with mates over a number of beers. The game can also be played sober. Just pit two teams of your choosing against each other, and sit back to watch the match unfold.

The main features of the game include :
- You can create your own league, with your own teams, with your own players. I have AFL '97 at home. Its crap. How do I be Fitzroy?
- Multiple leagues can be created.
- The games are played randomly, so any team can win or lose, any player can do well, or have a shocker.
- The game runs inbuilt commentary as it plays. If you don't like the types of comments, add your own!
- A league can be configured to play a full season, with a fixture, ladder and even a vote count incorporated.
- Game stats, player stats, highest/lowest scores, big hauls, player game-time, injuries/suspensions, all included.
- Player debuts and milestones are acknowledged.
- View the top lists of goals, kicks, in fact any of the major footy statistics.
- Winner/clanger ratios per player are shown after each match.
- Most statistical displays come with a text file dumping option.
- The entire commentary of each match is saved into a text file for later revision.
- You can see a score fluctuation graph of your match.
- Involve your mates in a full league fixture. See the Competitions for a list of virtual leagues around the web.
- Plenty more!

What Do I Need To Download? :
System Requirements :
- I'm no computer expert, I don't know the format this sort of info usually takes, but here's pretty much what I do know :
Operating System Windows Some sort of Windows is preferable. Win 95 & 98, they should work fine Win 2000 & XP don't come with DOS so you have to download OLDDOS.exe, but then they should be ok. Windows 7 users seem to have about a 70% success rate. Windows Vista : not so much!
DOS Before all the updates, it used to work on a purely DOS-based system, for example an IBM AT, X2 or PS2 would run it. These days, the speed might stuff it up. I mean, no-one's even gonna remember that PS2 ever meant that!
Mac / Linux Pretty bloomin' doubtful. I wouldn't know how it all works but I'm assuming these would hate Qooty's guts. Apparently there's such thing as Windows emulators that you can put onto an Apple/Mac, dunno if that'll help here though. I tried it via DOSBOX on a Macbook without success.
Memory Any Seeing as this used to run on an XT, I couldn't imagine any computer these days could be made with too little memory to run Qooty.
Note - Even though it runs on any memory, QBasic and therefore Qooty can tend to slow down other Windows applications. I'd always suggest you try not to run too many other marvels of the technological era at the same time that you are running Qooty.
Disk Space Download 1.7mb
Expanded 2.8mb
Leagues A tiny league with little data may only need about 1 or 2mb, but if you're exporting to websites and keeping every stat there is, I'd be putting aside a safe maximum of 10mb per league. Add this to your 2800kb program files and you should have a good coverage of the requirement. Its not very big. I as the developer currently have a whole pile of test leagues running, and the total is 34mb.
Sound and Graphics None Qooty requires 16 colours, 256 ascii characters, and the ability to beep. If your computer doesn't have these capabilities, I'd be on the phone to the Antiques Roadshow post haste. If you have a phone.

First Time Downloading :
- If you are downloading QOOTY for the first time, get the most recent version of Qooty pre the zip file below. It includes OLDDOS.EXE, which you may need to run (unpack) if the game won't work on its own.
- You may also need autoexec.nt, a file that Windows uses in place of autoexec.bat. It depends on which system you are running, and whether you have installed particular service packs. [more info]

Upgrading :
- 1. Download the latest version of Qooty and unzip over the existing files.

FILES :
Qooty.v9.7.zip
This is a zip file full of QOOTY's files. Create a folder called QOOTY and unzip into it.

HISTORY :
Please note that a history of the past versions of Qooty can be found in the Version file of the Qooty download, and can also be viewed here.

This site used to feature Forums for any feedback, questions, etc, but they broke. You can find me in the Fantasy Forum area of Bigfooty if you want to get in touch. Look for user 'Mobbenfuhrer'.
